Due to holiday gift-giving, police noted that reports of stolen packages from front porches, doorways, or other obvious places rise this time of year. With so many people doing their shopping online due to COVID-19, 2020 promises to provide plenty of opportunities for package thefts.
East Haven Police are seeking a woman (photos provided) who is wanted in connection with at least three reports of parcels being stolen from people’s porches on Thursday, Nov. 19.
The suspected thief is a white woman in her early 30s or 40s with shoulder-length brown hair. In the surveillance video caught of the suspect, she is wearing a white peacoat, maroon pants, white sneakers, and carrying a tan purse.
The thief appears to pull up to homes in an early 2000s black or dark-colored Nissan Maxima with a right rear spare tire, police said.
The suspect was last seen on Edward Street traveling west.
As the holidays approach, East Haven Police said opportunistic thieves scan for unguarded packages left on people's doorsteps and front porches.
PROTECT YOUR STUFF
Some ways to safeguard your delivered packages include:
- Police suggest providing specific instructions to the delivery driver and ask them to place packages in the back or behind a fence.
- Retrieve packages as soon as you know they’ve been delivered, police said.
- Create a network of neighbors to collect packages as soon as they are delivered.
- Use Amazon Locker, in-store pickup, or a P.O. box.
